Mary's Flame of Love

What is it?

The Flame of Love is a powerful Movement of Grace sweeping through the Church and the whole world. It is not a new prayer group or devotion but rather a gift to strengthen every ministry, every family, every Christian, every person in Grace – to flood all of humanity with the effect of Grace. The Flame of Love is for everyone.

The purpose of the Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is to “blind Satan” – one of the principle reasons Jesus came: the Son of God was revealed to destroy the works of the devil – I John 3:8 (NABRE)

Jesus described blinding Satan this way: “By collaborating with Me, Satan will be blinded by it; and because of his blindness, souls will not be led into sin.” – The Spiritual Diary, Elizabeth Kindelmann, May 4, 1962

This final victory of driving out Satan’s influence happens through love but not any love – the self-sacrificial love of Jesus (“love one another as I love you” – John 15:12 (NABRE)), the love that is the Most Holy Trinity (John 17:26), that is miraculously poured into us by the Holy Spirit (Rom 5:5) as the effect of Grace (Eph 2:8-10) and demonstrated on the Cross (I John 3:16).

Mary, the Mother of Jesus and the only person besides Jesus called “full of grace”, who is completely filled with the love of the Trinity, accelerates this victory by sharing the love of her own Immaculate Heart with us (“Take this Flame . . . It is the Flame of Love of my heart. Ignite your own heart with it and then pass it on to others.” – The Spiritual Diary, Elizabeth Kindelmann, April 13, 1962)

She wants to light this love not just in hearts with faith but those filled with hatred, those who have lost faith, and those who have never had faith and by this love to lead all people to her Son, Jesus. “In the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph” – Fatima

And it is no surprise that this triumph comes about by Grace making Jesus, who is the Flame of Love, present in our hearts (“You have to seek a refuge for my Flame of Love, which is Jesus Christ himself” – The Spiritual Diary, Elizabeth Kindelmann, August 31, 1962)

Greatest Outpouring of Graces Since the Word Was Made Flesh

In giving this gift to the Church, Mary, the mother of Jesus, described it as the greatest outpouring of graces since the Word was made Flesh. She is placing the very love of her Immaculate Heart miraculously into our hearts as the the effect of grace so that we become so united to Jesus through this love that there is no room left for Satan and sin.

This is how we drive out sin from our lives – those difficult sins that never seem to go away. This is how we drive the influence of evil away from our families, our communities, and our countries. This is the purpose of the Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary – to once and for all break the influence of evil by the effect of grace – filling us with such love for Jesus, the love of His own mother, that evil is driven out. That takes all of us!

It is time! It is time, once and for all, to drive the evil and hatred out of our world. It is time for the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary through her Son, Jesus, filling our lives by the effect of grace. It will take everyone – not just one prayer group – everyone, filled with grace, to do this – to drive out Satan once and for all. This is why the Flame of Love is for everyone – because Grace is for everyone.

So, if you’re tired of struggling with the same old sins, this is for you. If you’re tired of seeing our families under assault and our children trampled, this is for you. If you are concerned that the fire of hatred burning in the world is filling the world with madness, this is for you. We can do something about this and that “something” is grace – living a life of grace through the Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

So come, please come. Learn about grace and receive this love of our Blessed Mother’s Immaculate Heart in your heart. When this love full of grace, the love of The Most Holy Trinity, fills the world, the world will change. Believe in miracles – the miracle of Grace!

Tell Me More

Ending the Influence of Evil Once and for All

The Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a great gift given by Mary, the mother of Jesus, to the entire world at this time to, once and for all, break the influence of evil in the world by the presence of Jesus, her Son. By it, she will end the hatred, anger, violence, and corruption that threaten our very existence – the evil that is destroying our families, wounding our children, and filling our hearts with upset and anxiety.

It is intended for all people, not any one group of people, because evil must be driven from every heart for there to finally be peace.

She wishes to light the Flame of Love of her Immaculate Heart full of grace in hearts that are filled with infernal hatred, in those whose “lamps have gone out”, i.e., those who have lost faith, those who do not even have a lamp, i.e., those who have never had faith in her Son, and those whose lamps are lit, i.e., those who do have faith in her Son. By this light, as the effect of grace, she will bring all people to her Son, the Prince of Peace, and the light of His presence in all hearts will blind Satan.

“The soft light of my Flame of Love will light up, spreading fire over the entire surface of the earth. Satan, humiliated and reduced to powerlessness, will not be able to exercise his power.” Nov 27, 1963

How This Works

Mary, the Mother of Jesus, is full of grace – one of only two people called full of grace – the other being Jesus Himself. Grace is the word we use to describe the power by which God miraculously transforms our very nature over time from our human nature to His divine nature so that we can think, feel, act, and be as He is – the only way to live an eternally sustainable lifestyle that brings permanent joy and peace – a life that IS love always and not just DOES love as long as there is a reason to love.

Grace is the miracle that makes Christianity happen and makes it a religion unlike any other. Christians are not Christians because they follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. Other religions may follow the teachings of wise and brilliant teachers of the past or laws and precepts given by God but Christians are Christians because Jesus literally, not figuratively, lives in them by the miraculous action of the Holy Spirit to change not just what we do but what we are. This grace draws us to this union, consummates this union, and continues to grow this union.

Mary, full of grace, is able to love more than any other created being. She is so fully united to Jesus as the effect of grace that she says the Flame of Love of her Immaculate Heart is Jesus Himself – a love that comes from God and binds us to the very life and nature of God. It is this love that she wishes to miraculously share with all people – to draw all people to be united to her Son and eventually, as the effect of grace, to be so united to Him and filled with the Love that He is, that there is no room left for evil. At her miraculous appearance at Fatima, she called this the Triumph of her Immaculate Heart.

In the Flame of Love of her Immaculate Heart, Mary promised the greatest outpouring of graces since Jesus walked the Earth. When Jesus is present in all lives as the effect of grace, the works of the evil one will be destroyed once and for all. This is the purpose of the Flame of Love. “this priest understood the essential message, which is ‘to blind Satan.’ This is the principal and only purpose of the Flame of Love of the Blessed Virgin. She, herself, promised an outpouring of graces so great as have not happened on earth since the Word became Flesh.” Feb 23, 1964 Yes, by making Jesus present, the works of the evil one are destroyed: ¨Indeed, the Son of God was revealed to destroy the works of the devil.¨ I John 3:8 NABRE

What Do I Do To Receive It?

Be willing to receive it; it is that simple. It is a gift, grace, freely given. You don´t need to join anything, pray anything, do anything to receive this gift other than be willing to receive it.

However, for it to be effective, once we have received it, we must respond to it! Otherwise it is ineffective and we lose this grace. So what does the response look like?

If we receive this great ability to love more than ever before, a love full of grace, we must respond to every prompting of that love to put that love into action. To do this, we must understand what love is and most of us do not. This is a topic far bigger than we can discuss here but let’s do a quick overview.

We have been told a great lie about love – that love is about our self-fulfillment: we meet someone, they make us feel wonderful, make us feel fulfilled, and this is love. That’s not the love we’re talking about. This love full of grace is about self-sacrifice, not self-fulfillment.

There are only two ends in life – either we live for self or we live for love. Most of us, without even realizing it, live most of our lives for self. How do we choose what to eat? What we want. How do we choose what to wear? What we want to wear. How do we choose to spend our money? To get the most for the least for ourselves even if it means the resurrection of slavery in the world. How do we choose to spend our time? We do what we want to do.

Love changes all that. We ask how can we eat (or not eat) for the sake of others? How can I dress for others? How can I use my money to benefit others? How can I use my time for others? This is very practical. How do we choose which banana to take from the bunch? The best one for ourselves or leave the best for others and take the worst so others don’t need to eat it? Which piece of dessert do we take? Love is always taking the smallest piece of pie? How do we drive or get on the bus or train? Are we living for self or living for love?

If our hearts are now filled with this extraordinary, miraculous love, our lives will now be continuously filled with acts of sacrificial love. This is what Jesus showed us on the Cross – what true love, the love of God, the love that fills Mary’s Immaculate Heart full of grace, looks like: “The way we came to know love was that he laid down his life for us; so we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If someone who has worldly means sees a brother in need and refuses him compassion, how can the love of God remain in him? Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth.” I John 3:16-18 NABRE

The response to the greatest outpouring of graces since the Word was made flesh is the greatest outpouring of sacrificial love. We receive this gift freely but then we must respond to it. When the world is filled with this love, evil will be driven out. This is the love we must help spread to finally bring peace and good.

What Do I Do To Spread It?

We are not the ones who light this miraculous Flame of Love in other people’s hearts; Mary does. It is she through whom God works this miracle of conversion or, to use the technical term, it is she who mediates this grace. But we have a part to play. What is that part?

There is a fascinating passage in the Diary of Elizabeth Kindelmann, the woman to whom the Flame of Love was first given. She was trying to explain the Flame of Love to a priest who was not getting it. She failed miserably – fumbling over her words and not able to convey it at all. The next day, Mary explained why:

December 17, 1962
The Blessed Virgin’s words acted like illuminating goodness in my soul. “My little daughter, why did you exert yourself, why did you try to speak eloquent words on behalf of my Flame of Love? Keep in mind your function – suffering – and remember the words my Holy Son said. Endure suffering and bring constant sacrifices! Your sufferings are not in vain, but who is to understand my Flame of Love and how is not your business. Little instrument, don’t be surprised that you couldn’t say eloquent words. I’m the one who acts, and I’m the one who lights the Flame of my love in the depth of hearts.

In other words, we do our part and Mary does her part. What is our part? As she describes here: sacrifice – living that life of sacrificial love. Elsewhere in the Diary, we also that we are to pray, desire, and, where possible, labor, i.e., let people know about this great gift Mary wants to give.

In the Diary this woman left us, we see Mary lighting the Flame of Love of her Immaculate Heart in those on their death bed in response to our sacrifices. We see it being lit in little children in response to Elizabeth’s prayers and her desires that they receive this gift. Jesus and Mary both tell us that the Flame of Love will light in those whose “lamps have gone out” i.e., those who have lost faith, and those who do not even have a lamp, i.e., those who have never had faith – all in response to our sacrifices – putting this sacrificial love into action.

So we do our part – prayer, sacrifice, desire, and labor – and Mary does her part to light the Flame of Love of her Immaculate Heart in all hearts.

Is There A Devotion Associated With The Flame of Love?

The purpose of the Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is not to start a new prayer devotion or new prayer group although we do have devotional elements and prayer groups and these are powerful and important. There are only three devotional elements in the Flame of Love:

  • The meditation on the five wounds
  • The Flame of Love Hail Mary
  • The Unity Prayer or Prayer of Union with Jesus

There are two striking characteristics of these three devotional elements. First, they are not compositions of pious people in the Church. We have many such prayers and they are beautiful and powerful but these three devotional elements came directly from Jesus and Mary. Second, when prayed together, they simply and powerfully teach the Gospel – no degree in Theology needed! They are a way to teach to Gospel to everyone every time they are prayed. Let’s quickly explore each one.

Meditation on the Five Wounds

This was requested by both Jesus and Mary. There have been many beautiful meditations on the five wounds in the past – from Saint Claire of Assisi, from the Pallotines, and others. But Mary was very specific about how we are to meditate on these wounds in the Flame of Love, specifically, we are to “start with five Signs of the Cross, during which you offer yourselves to the Eternal Father through my Son’s Holy Wounds”. In other words, the way to be an acceptable offering to the Father is by joining Jesus on the Cross – loving as He loves. “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23 NABRE “The way we came to know love was that he laid down his life for us; so we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.” I John 3:16-18 NABRE

We must love with the very love of the Trinity – the love with which God has loved within Himself for all eternity. This prayer that we be filled with the love of the Most Holy Trinity was the very last prayer Jesus prayed before going to Gethsemane: “that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them.” John 17:26 NABRE

But there is a problem: we cannot live this way consistently. Sometimes we have flashes of Original Justice and do experience a truly holy and selfless love but, most of the time, we live for ourselves in either overt evil or with a good and love that are built around ourselves rather than truly, holy, selfless love. The only way we can consistently love this way every moment of our lives as God does is by a miracle and we call that miracle Grace. That brings us to the Flame of Love Hail Mary.

The Flame of Love Hail Mary

Grace is everything. Without grace, there is no Church, no salvation, no miraculous transformation into the divine nature so that we can think, feel, and act as God does. This is why Mary’s promise that the Flame of Love of her Immaculate Heart would bring about the greatest outpouring of graces since Jesus walked the Earth is so important. Grace is the only way out of the hatred, anger, violence, and corruption of our world. Grace, whose effect is to make Jesus present in our lives, is how Satan’s influence will be driven out of all hearts once and for all. Grace is our only hope and grace is our every hope.

Because grace is so important in our time – this time of great evil that literally threatens our existence and is wreaking havoc on our families – because Mary wants us to emphasize the importance and partake of the power of grace, she took a prayer that is so well know, the traditional Hail Mary, and added a plea for grace to create a new prayer – a prayer for our time – the Flame of Love Hail Mary with it’s powerful plea for grace:

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners,
Spread the effect of grace of your Flame of Love over all of humanity
Now and at the hour of our death.

Let me address the common concern that this is a change to the Hail Mary. Although it has often been explained this way, the official documents of the Movement are very clear that this is not a change to the Hail Mary but is its own prayer. “even though it starts from the traditional text of the Hail Mary it creates a new prayer, but it does not affect the original prayer and does not require anyone to change it” “We must mark, that the praying of the Hail Mary with the addition is neither a “correction of”, nor an “addition to” the original, nor some variant of it, but a self-sufficing prayer, independent from the original Ave Maria.” The Theological Examination Of The Spiritual Diary Of The Flame Of Love, Dr. Zoltán Kovács, Section 6.6.2.

Mary has asked us to plead for this outpouring of grace over all of humanity for that is the only way evil will finally be broken, her Immaculate Heart will triumph, and all the world drawn to her Divine Son, Jesus, the Prince of Peace. That is why she gave us this prayer which we then use to form the Flame of Love Rosary.

So we are called to love as God loves but we can only do this by a miracle, the effect of grace. And the ultimate effect of grace is to make Jesus present, the Unity Prayer.

The Unity Prayer

Here is the account of Jesus giving the Unity Prayer:

Then the sweet Redeemer asked me to pray with Him the prayer that expresses His deepest desires:
May our feet journey together,
May our hands gather in unity,
May our hearts beat in unison,
May our souls be in harmony,
May our thoughts be as one,
May our ears listen to the silence together,
May our glances profoundly penetrate each other,
May our lips pray together to gain mercy from the Eternal Father.

I made this prayer completely mine. The Lord meditated on it many times with me, asserting that these are His eternal longings. He taught me this prayer, so I would in turn teach it to others. With all our strength and mind, let us make our own His eternal thoughts and burning desires.
Afterward, the Savior added this: Jesus: “This prayer is an instrument in your hands. By collaborating with Me, Satan will be blinded by it; and because of his blindness, souls will not be led into sin.” May 4, 1962

What a beautiful thought! We have insight into Jesus’ deepest desires. In effect, this is Jesus’ prayer to us and we have the privilege of echoing it back to Him – this is what we want, too.

In the Spiritual Diary of Elizabeth Kindelmann, Jesus often expounds the various phrases of this prayer. It is easy to misunderstand without His explanation. First, it is not a prayer about our unity with each other but rather about our unity with Him.

Second, this is not a “Jesus and me” prayer. When we pray, “May our feet journey together,” we are not asking Jesus to come with us to the store, to work, to our happy place, to every part of our life. Jesus explains that our feet must journey together to Calvary. This prayer is not us inviting Jesus into our life but rather Jesus inviting us into His! This is about Jesus and us working together for the salvation of souls. He explains that our hands together with His need to gather souls. He explains that His every thought, His deepest feelings are for souls. We plead for mercy together with Him for the sake of others. It is all about joining Jesus in His life of sacrifice to gain souls.

Finally, it is deeply Eucharistic. In the original Hungarian, Jesus does not speak about souls, thoughts, or glances but rather about eyes, minds, and, literally, our intestines – the place where we feel our deepest feelings; it is all about body parts. It is about Jesus being united to every part of our bodies. Recall our above discussion about how Christianity is different; it is not following Jesus; it is Jesus literally living in us by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Unity Prayer is not just the heart of the Flame of Love – it is the heart of Christianity!

The Gospel

There, in three devotional elements, we have the Gospel. We are called to love as God loves – the Meditation on the Five Wounds. We can only do this by the miracle of Grace – the Flame of Love Hail Mary. Grace’s ultimate effect is to make us completely one with Jesus – the Unity Prayer. When Jesus is present, Satan is driven out, blinded, and souls are saved. There is the gospel. We encourage everyone to incorporate the devotional elements in your personal prayer life and bring them home to your families.

How Do I Become More Involved?

Well . . . reading this web page is a good start! Thank you! We see six levels of involvement in the Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary:

Receive It:

Simply receive it – no requirements, no preconditions, nothing to join, pray, or read. It is a miracle, not a book, prayer devotion, or body of knowledge. Simply accept our Blessed Mother’s offer to place the love of her own heart full of grace, the love that is the love of the Most Holy Trinity, into your heart. It is for everyone!

Live It:

Once we receive this love, we must respond to this love. If you are one whose faith has gone out or who has never had faith and this new love is lighting the way to salvation, follow it! Act!

If you are someone who is living your faith and now feel a stronger prompting of love as this love fills your heart, act on it! If we feel the prompting of this sacrificial love, the love of God as shown on the Cross that fills the Immaculate Heart of Mary and now fills our hearts but refuse to act upon it, it becomes useless. If we ask Jesus to help us love like Him, how will He answer that prayer? By giving us the opportunity to do so in a thousand little things each day. This is the miracle of a billion little acts of love all of which combine to fill the world with Jesus’ presence and drive out evil as the effect of grace. We don’t just say our prayers; we must live our prayers. If Mary miraculously fills your heart with the love of God that fills her heart full of grace, respond to it. This is for everyone.

Pray It:

For those who know the devotional elements we discussed above, make them part of your personal prayer life. They are powerful, have the power to blind Satan, proclaim the gospel, and describe exactly what the world needs right now as the only way out of this mess – for the love of God made possible by the presence of Jesus as the effect of grace to flood all of humanity to drive out evil once and for all.

Bring It Home:

Bring both the miracle of the Flame of Love and its devotional elements home. The Flame of Love is for children and for families:
On August 8, 1962, Mary said, “families are torn apart and live as if the soul were not immortal. With my Flame of Love, I want to make the home come alive again with love. I want to unite families that are scattered.”

November 19, 1962: “There are many cold families like yours in my country. I want the Flame of Love of my heart to warm them up and others just as well.”

Jesus added on January 17, 1964:

By her powerful intercession, she obtained from Me for families this great effusion of grace, which she also wants to extend to the whole world. As she said: ‘Nothing comparable to this has happened ever since the Word became Flesh.’
She places the healing power of her maternal goodness at the root of evil. She did not want to perform a spectacular miracle as does occur in the large famous sanctuaries of the world, giving rise to great admiration. She wants every family to be a sanctuary, a wonderful place where, in union with you, she works miracles in the depth of hearts. Going from heart to heart, she places in your hands the Flame of Love of her heart. Through your prayers and sacrifices, it will blind Satan who wants to rule over families.

We can no longer protect our children; there is too much against them. Instead, we must teach our children to be active participants in the life of grace. They need to be the ones driving out evil when it confronts them. They need this love burning in their hearts. The first thing Mary asked for when she gave the Flame of Love was for family holy hours. The Flame of Love is for children; bring it home!

Pray In Community:

The Flame of Love is for everyone; one does not need to join a prayer group or say a prayer. However, for those who have the time and feel the calling, praying together is powerful and important. You can use this web site to find a physical or on-line Flame of Love prayer cenacle (prayer meeting) that is convenient to you or to contact the Flame of Love Movement in your area. You can also use the materials available on this site and our other national web sites to start your own prayer cenacle in your family, home, or parish.

Praying together is a way to work together to take back our families, our parishes, our communities, and our countries from the influence of Satan.

Participate In the Movement:

For those of you particularly moved and inspired by the Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, we welcome you to become more involved in the Flame of Love Movement. The miracle of the Flame of Love is much bigger than the movement of the Flame of Love but there is an organization whose purpose is to help Mary, the Mother of Jesus, light the Flame of Love of her Immaculate Heart around the world. If you feel so called and inspired, please use our contact pages to contact the Flame of Love in your area.

How Do I Bring This To My Parish or My Church?

Engaging our Pastors is a powerful way to spread the Flame of Love. Recall that the Flame of Love is not about starting a new prayer group and just for a few people but for everyone. It is given to a parish or church to strengthen every ministry, every group, every family, and every person in grace and love. Pastors can bring the Flame of Love to their entire flock.

However, our Pastors receive constant requests like this so please think from the Pastor’s perspective and about what we can give rather than what we want. Here are some guidelines:

  1. If your clergy know and trust you, you may be able to approach them right away.
  2. If the door miraculously opens, run through it!
  3. The normal path we see is to spread the Flame of Love initially among family, friends, neighbors, and fellow parishioners privately. Then, when it has begun to bear good fruit, we can approach our pastors and share with them what we have experienced. Now they have a basis upon which they can make a decision – the good fruit they see. When they bring it into their parishes and churches, then they see the good fruit the Flame of Love bears and become advocates with their fellow pastors and their superiors.

When you discern it is time to approach your pastor, please be sure you are spiritually prepared so you can listen and respond appropriately. Be prepared with appropriate materials; handing our busy pastors a 400 page book to read may not be the best approach! You can find materials appropriate for an introduction to pastors on this web site. You can also use our contact forms to contact the Flame of Love leaders in your area. They can help you, furnish materials and guidance, and share with you other churches in the area that have embraced the Flame of Love.

Remember that, if no one comes to a Flame of Love prayer cenacle, no one calls themselves “Flame of Love,” and no one provides any support but all are filled with this great outpouring of grace and love, mission accomplished! We do not need to be big or noticed. We just need to help Jesus’ Mother, Mary, spread the Flame of Love of her heart to draw all people to her Son.

Is it Approved?

The Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is for everyone. However, for Catholics, the approval of the Church is important to protect the faithful from teachings and practices contrary to the faith. The Spiritual Diary of Elizabeth Kindelmann, the woman to whom this great gift was first given, and the Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Movement was subjected to a multi-year investigation by the local ordinary in its Diocese of origin, Esztergom-Budapest. On June 6, 2009, none other than Péter Cardinal Erdö, the Primate of all Hungary, a highly respected Cardinal and one of the Church’s foremost experts on Canon Law, granted his Imprimatur to the Spiritual Diary and approved the Movement by establishing it as a Private Association of the Faithful with Juridic Personality in the Archdiocese of Esztergom-Budapest.

The Movement has been encouraged and granted an Apostolic Blessing by the Vatican and has been approved and commended by many Episcopal Conferences, Cardinals, Archbishops, and Bishops around the world. We are recording these here as we learn of them. Once we have sufficiently documented our approvals from around the world and created statutes adequate to govern a global organization, we will seek universal recognition by the Holy See as an International Association of the Faithful.

However, this only pertains to the Apostolate of the Flame of Love. The miracle the Mother of Jesus is performing in the depth of hearts around the world inside and outside the Church happens regardless of approvals. Its authentication is found in the hearts and lives it transforms. “There will be no need to investigate this miracle. All will feel its authenticity within their hearts. Whoever has felt it once will communicate it to others because my grace will be active in them. There is no need for authentication. I will authenticate it myself in every soul so that all recognize the effusion of grace of my Flame of Love.” Oct 19, 1962

Blinding Satan and breaking his influence once and for all in your life, the lives of those around you, and the whole world by the miracle of the Flame of Love of Mary’s own Immaculate Heart full of grace bringing us into intimate union with her Son, Jesus, requires no one’s approval . . . except yours. And so she says to you, “Take this Flame I give you; it is the Flame of Love of my heart. Light your own heart with it and pass it on.” April 13, 1962
