Passing the Flame of Love
It is important to understand that there is not an official way to “pass the Flame of Love”. In the Diary, we see the Flame of Love being lit in many ways in many different situations. It may be that we speak to a person and pray over them. It may be a ceremony. But it may also be remotely – the Flame of Love lighting in the hearts of the dying during our night vigils or in the hearts of those whose lamps have gone out or never had a lamp in response to our prayers, sacrifices, and desires.
Nonetheless, there are some beautiful forms of passing the Flame of Love. Here is what Győző Kindelmann, Elizabeth’s Grandson who was reared as her own son and our Lay Consultant to ensure we stay true to how his Grandmother understood the Flame of Love, wrote to us about passing and receiving the Flame of Love:
Our Lady can ignite the Flame of Love in anyone’s heart, even by reading the Spiritual Diary of the Flame of Love, also by listening to a lecture. Afterwards, however, spiritual commitment is important, and there are conditions for this: frequent attendance at Mass, regular sacramental worship, rosary prayers, atoning prayers for sins, fasting, and so on. These deeds help the ignited flame in our hearts to flare up even more, they help us in the struggle against evil (Satan), and if we offer all of our efforts for others, it results in igniting the Flame of Love in the hearts of others. Therefore, we can spread the Flame of Love through personal apostolate (giving out brochures, talking to someone about the Flame of Love, inviting someone to a lecture, etc.), but we can also spread it with our prayers and to desire that the Flame of Love will ignite in the hearts of others. (“Spread the effect of grace of Thy Flame of Love over all of humanity.”)
Also, there is a formal event of the Passing of the Flame of Love annually on February 2nd, the Feast of the Flame of Love, and the same external form of commitment is present at the end of the Flame of Love missions. The process is as follows: One by one, the congregation (faithful believers) with a candle in everyone’s hand, goes in front of the priest (or leader), who lights the candle of every committed man from the burning candle in his own hand, repeating to everyone the words of Our Lady to Elizabeth:
“Take this flame that I give you, it is the flame of love of my heart, set fire to yours and pass it on!”
Before that, it is important to make the participants aware that these are the words of Our Lady; therefore, the mission is received from Our Lady herself to be apostles of the outpouring of the Flame of Love.
We have the long form meditation on receiving the Flame of Love from the Movement in the US available here and we have the following short form:
Jesus knocks on the door of your heart… open the door and allow the Flame, Jesus Himself, to enter your being. Allow Jesus to fill your imagination and memory. Close your eyes and imagine Jesus within you.
Now, imagine an enormous Fire. You enter into that Fire. Do not be afraid. The Fire is Jesus Himself, The Flame of Love. You are not alone, Mary is with you. You are in the deepest part of Her Heart, immersed in Her Flame of Love. Mary fills you with great desires so that you want to receive more and more of this Flame, surrender to the Flame and to have Him consume your whole life.
This is a holy and sacred moment. The Flame leaps from her heart to yours and She gives the Flame without limits. The Flame of Love is so great that She suffers until the Flame leaves Her Heart and goes to yours, because it belongs in our hearts. She gives the Fire far beyond your capacity to receive. She gives gifts that were meant for others but they did not receive. Receive this Flame for everyone – for yourself, your family, your friends. You will not realize all she has done for you this day. The effects will unfold slowly and powerfully.
Be still. The prayer is complete. Our Lady is pouring out the effects of grace of the Flame of Love.
